Stephen Mace - Shaping Formless Fire: Distilling the Quintessence of Magick

Magick depends upon no abstract philosophies, and doing it requires neither devotion to any god or demon nor knowledge of the True Keys of the Mysteries. Instead it is a technique for recognizing and manipulating psychic energy, both within the psyche and outside it, and for acquiring the mental skills we need to do this effectively. If the details of this technique can seem involved, well, the psyche is a complicated instrument, and psychic energy is slippery stuff to deal with. We must learn to manage it within our psyches and also to split it off so it can act independently to produce the "meaningful coincidences" we require.
Magick is a psychic technology, a collection of observations about psychic energy and the techniques for manipulating it. Shaping Formless Fire presents these with a simple elegance that contradicts the notion that Magick must remain a hidden art. There is psychic energy with us and all around us. We use its power to make our worlds, and to master it is to learn how to make the worlds we require. To see it as merely the way we perceive the world is to put ourselves at its mercy, and forfeit its power.

Seizing Power explores the Magick of using power to deal with the two institutions that seem to do the most to cripple our access to it: the Corporation and the State. Of these, the former is surely more odious than the latter, and infinitely less vital. Most odious of all, of course, is the carnal union of the two, but such depravity may tend toward the decline of both parties, and Seizing Power examines the dynamics of this process as well.

This book is the beginning of a long road. It exists within a paradox of detailed research and the fierce resistance of dogma. This book is for the iconoclast. The magus who rejects blind adherence and who struggles against the invisible prison of tradition. For rouge scholars, artists, hackers, Goths, or any other magus on the underground path of evolution. "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law", with attitude.

It's a fine introduction to the practical side of the occult as well as a dissection of government and media about freeing us from "seeing through other people's visions of the world". Ultimately, the book questions how we see the world through our own vision. We use different maps to navigate through reality, in the form of beliefs, preconceptions, ideals, attitudes, etc. Are these maps actually tyrants that dominate us?
The hilarious ideas in this book help clear away mental baggage, helping readers to question what they take for reality. Is reality what you have read in newspapers or heard from politicians, but have never experienced? Is reality going to a boring job every day, waiting until you retire to enjoy yourself, having routine and predictable conversations, never thinking about what other possible ways you could be living your life? What would life be like if you stripped away everything you have learned, all the beliefs and habitual ways of living that have been socialized into you from the start?
Through "guerilla warfare of the mind" we can begin to live freer lives, and understand what we are by clearing away habitual ways of thinking/acting.
Philip H. Farber - Meta-Magick - The Book of ATEM - Achieving New States of Consciousness Through NLP Neuroscience and Ritual
Downloaded: 16 times | Size: 169 pages | Add to wishlist | Download for @50 credits
In Meta-Magick: The Book of Atem, Philip H. Farber combines traditional ritual sensibilities with contemporary concepts of neurolinguistics and memetics to create a unique entity - Atem. In this instance, the essence of an entity is encoded in a book and activated by the reader. At the same time, the book is a comprehensive manual of evocation, containing dozens of easy-to-follow rituals and exercises for exploring and creating magical entities of every sort. Farber teaches readers to wake up from their habitual trance, to reprogram themselves to stand in the Mystery without unnecessary mystification. This supercharged fusion of tried-and-true magical and psychological techniques moves beyond trauma, healing, and recovery into self-fulfillment and self-transformation. Combining both disciplines with methods such as intentionality, autohypnosis, visualization, personification, and experiential journeys, Farber creates a powerful system that opens the way to peak experiences, self-knowledge, even cosmic consciousness. Rather than importing standardized healing images, readers learn to create their own emergent metaphors, their own creative strengths and flexible freedom.
Atem is a living Magus, an icon for the twenty-first century. Part transpersonal shaman, part inner guide, part inner healer, part role model, Atem becomes a personal therapist, a guide to self-discovery and self-initiation. Atem, as healing fiction, helps readers to create their own breakthroughs, their own catharsis - emotional clearing that frees energy from internal conflict to flow creatively into new expressions.

Wisdom is a stasis: Knowledge is like the 'snake of eternity', constantly eating itself and never finishing. More bathos: connexity of all our bloody selves to Ego is a nightmare commanded by the overlooked, unobeyed latencies of return, essential for re-union. Ego expands by that which evokes mutual effluxes; therefore look for the Theocentric in the Egocentric. If God personalizes our deficiencies, then, we thus personify his? Subject understanding object by 'as if' may become, with courage, an ingressive emotional experience giving mutual expression. Falsehood, and all sham conceits, are the reflected memory of the de-related and forgotten event resurging, re-exhibiting for validation; for whatever you pretend, holds a misplaced Truth, i.e., inaccurately related time and place. This also is true of the future. Time here is long… Of whom do we ask forgiveness when we hate ourselves?

A richly illustrated book of images. Some of Spare's techniques, particularly the use of sigils and the creation of an "alphabet of desire" were adopted, adapted and popularized by Peter J. Carroll in the work Liber Null & Psychonaut. Carroll and other writers such as Ray Sherwin are seen as key figures in the emergence of some of Spare's ideas and techniques as a part of a magical movement loosely referred to as chaos magic. Zos Kia Cultus is a term coined by Kenneth Grant, with different meanings for different people. One interpretation is that it is a form, style, or school of magic inspired by Spare. It focuses on one's individual universe and the influence of the magician's will on it. While the Zos Kia Cultus has very few adherents today, it is widely considered an important influence on the rise of chaos magic.
