  • Hockley - Clavis Arcana Magica

Downloaded: 9 times | Size: 59 pages | Add to wishlist | Download for @100 credits

The full text of a previously-unpublished manuscript by Frederick Hockley (1809-1885), an occultist and Freemason, whose interests included scrying, ritual magic, alchemy and spiritualism. In later life Hockley joined the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia and other esoteric fraternities, and his work was posthumously used by various members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and his importance to nineteenth-century occultism is only now being recognised. The "Clavis Arcana Magica" is an unusual text for Hockley in that it is concerned with what might be considered "black magic." As Alan Thorogood describes in his Introduction, it gives instruction for the performance of a number of magical workings, the details of which were said to have been obtained for Hockley via his seer Emma, during a series of scrying operations undertaken between 1853 and 1856. The workings are preceded by instructions including the form of the "call to the crystal," the exorcism and the discharge. The first working outlines a method to call the spirits of five material substances or organisms for the purpose of receiving cognate visions, the second is a variety of praestigia for the revivification of animal as well as plant species, the third outlines the construction of a talisman which permits the operator to enter the "spirit state" while asleep, and the fourth is necromantic ritual "of marvellous power and force."

  • From Alchemy To Chemistry by John Read

Downloaded: 9 times | Size: 239 pages | Add to wishlist | Download for @50 credits

Broad, humanistic treatment concentrates on the great figures of chemistry and the ideas that revolutionized the science, from earliest history to the modern era. Much of the book is devoted to alchemy, but also the development of modern chemistry: atomic theory, nature of the elements, beginning of organic chemistry, much more. Broad in scope, erudite yet very readable, with few chemical equations or formulae.

Whoever wishes to possess this secret Golden Fleece, which has virtue to transmute metals into gold, should know that our Stone is nothing but gold digested to the highest degree of purity and subtle fixation to which it can be brought by Nature and the highest effort of Art; and this gold thus perfected is called "our gold," no longer vulgar, and is the ultimate goal of Nature.

It's history, chemistry, mineralogy, geology, metallurgy, uses, preparations, analysis, production, nd valuaion, with complete bibliographies. For students, manufacturers and users of antimony.

QiCAL work in English by a Chinese author is unusual; but long residence in America, and in England and other parts of Europe, and much study of English literature, have familiarised me with the language, and have encouraged me to make it the medium for presenting my work to the English-speaking public; and I desire to express my thanks to Messrs Charles Grifhn k Co. for the opportunity they have afforded me of doing so. My researches concerning Antimony have extended over several years, and I would express my thanks to Professor Kemp, of Columbia University, for his valuable guidance. References to Antimony are scattered through the technical literature of many languages, and the subject is dealt with in general treatises on metallurgy. There does not, however, appear to be any English text-book devoted to its special consideration, and foreign works on this subject are not readily accessible to English readers, who have had to content themselves with the necessarily condensed notes in the standard work on metallurgy by Phillips and Bauerman, and Professor Louis translation of Carl Schnabel swork. These, although valuable, do not claim to be exhaustive, and the modem volatilisation process naturally finds but little mention. It seems likely, however, to become the sole process by which the poorer classes of antimony ores can be economically treated; and as these ores are of rapidly growing importance, possibly as a result of the exhaustion of the richer grades of ore, a description of the process is of importance. It has been my privilege to carry out practical tests of the volatilisation process patented by Mons. H. Herrenschmidt, and tlie results are incorporated in this book. I am also greatly indebted to that gentleman for kindly reading through the greater part of my MS., especially the chapter on the Metallurgy of Antimony.

  • M.M. Pattison Muir - The Story of Alchemy and the Beginnings of Chemistry

Downloaded: 3 times | Size: 104 pages | Add to wishlist | Download for @50 credits

A solid overview and valuable aid for anyone endeavoring to unravel the complex history of alchemy.

The quest to turn base metals into gold captured the imagination of some of the finest minds of the enlightenment, this exciting book looks at the experiments carried out in dark basements away from the eye's of the public and the church. Little did these pioneers realise they were setting the foundation for one of the most fundamental sciences. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.

Alchemists Handbook: (Manual for Practical Laboratory Alchemy)

    by Frater Albertus

The Alchemist's Handbook by Frater Albertus is quite possibly the greatest and most concise piece of work on practical laboratory Alchemy known to man. Within a mere 124 pages, the author explains in detail the processes by which any would-be Alchemist may create herbal elixers. The process is simple and can be learned quickly and inexpensively. Mastering the Great Art that is Alchemy, however, takes significantly longer (I myself have been practicing for many years and still have not touched its surface). Frater Albertus does not, thankfully, fall into a deep and penatrating discussion of each elixer and its properties(of which there would be thousands), but rather explains how to create them and leaves the aspiring Alchemist to practice, study, ponder and create. In doing so, he insures that those who would like to venture into the Great Art have the capacity to learn it for themselves.

The Emerald Tablet: Alchemy for Personal Transformation

    by Dennis William Hauck

The Emerald Tablet--an ancient document that contains the essence of the alchemical teachings--has had an important influence on many Western spiritual and religious traditions. Ostensibly concerned with turning base metals into gold, alchemy was in fact dedicated to transforming the lead of self into the gold of spirit. This brilliant history of alchemy traces its sources back to ancient Egypt, and presents alchemy as a useful, practical system of self-transformation. Each of the seven steps of alchemical transformation is explained, with hands-on techniques and exercises, treating alchemy as a living discipline for achieving a spiritual awakening."
