A slim companion to Maxwell's bestselling Winning withPeople, this volume aims to teach readers skills that will helpthem improve their interpersonal relationships. Using a tag-teamapproach, with Parrott kicking off each topic and Maxwell buttingin for a "Mentoring Moment" every few pages, the authors offer upfamiliar nuggets of advice such as "Pass the Credit on to Others,""Listen with Your Heart" and "Point Out People's Strengths." Whilethe book supposedly offers "specific skills that can be masteredin a matter of days," workable suggestions are unfortunately lostin the avalanche of fawning praise that Parrott heaps uponMaxwell. Most chapters include notes such as, "I've watched Johnfor years... Everything he does, he does with excellence."Statements such as this serve no purpose and turn a potentiallyviable advice book into an outlet for praise and platitudes

  • John C. Maxwell - The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader:Becoming the Person Others Will Want to Follow

    Downloaded: 2 times | Size: 45.2MB zippedMP3s | Add to wishlist | Download for @50 credits

Why do some people consistently inspire others to followtheir lead? According to John C. Maxwell, author of 24 books and aregular speaker on the topic, it's the "character qualities" theypossess. In The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader, Maxwellidentifies these top traits as character, charisma, commitment, communication, competence, courage, discernment, focus, generosity, initiative, listening, passion, positive attitude,problem-solving, relationships, responsibility, security,self-discipline, servanthood, teachability, and vision--and thendefines them in ways that readers can absorb and utilize. Each iscovered in a separate chapter opening with a high-conceptdefinition and continuing with relevant anecdotes, details on itsmeaning, suggestions for further reflection, and exercises forimprovement. For example, in the section on vision ("You can seizeonly what you can see"), Maxwell describes how Walt Disneyinitially developed the theme-park concept after accompanying hisdaughters to a fun-filled but rather shabby amusement park. Hethen analyzes how Disney's resultant projects drew on his personalhistory while meeting other's needs, and explains how readers must"listen to several voices" to develop successful foresight in asimilar way. Finally, Maxwell suggests methods to articulate thesevisions and measure their implementation

Maxwell reaches out to theleading icons of the Old Testament for the life and leadershiplessons conveyed in his thought-provoking albeit slim Running withthe Giants. Maxwell, author of The 21 Irrefutable Laws ofLeadership and a half-dozen other books on the topic, writes herethat biblical personalities like Abraham, Joseph, and Moses canprovide us with the real "inspiration, wisdom, and empowerment" weneed to lead. For example, Maxwell explains, Noah's actions teachus that "one person can make a difference"; he then fleshes outrelevant maxims like "Don't be afraid to stand out in a crowd" and"Don't be afraid to do something for the first time" to bring thisconcept into the 21st century. Likewise, the servant girl from thebook of Kings shows us how "one small act can make a bigdifference," but for it to happen today one must be confident andcredible and "speak to people's needs." Those committed to thesources from which Maxwell draws will particularly appreciate histake on the lessons they impart, as well as his athleticallyinspired theme and contemporary presentation

  • Jonar C. Nader - How to Lose Friends and Infuriate People

    Downloaded: 2 times | Size: 27MB zipped MP3s | Add to wishlist | Download for @50 credits

Jonar Nader knows his thoughts on business andleadership won't appeal to everyone. But thiswriter-consultant-speaker-philosopher, who grandiosely callshimself a Post-Tentative Virtual Surrealist, certainly doesn'tlack for ideas. Between one section on skills for today ("lifemanagement" and creativity) and another on those for the future(management trends and customer service), he addresses broadtopics like leadership and teamwork and how they can moreeffectively enable people to coexist. Some comments seemintentionally inflammatory ("stop the insatiable urge to surveyeverything that moves" and "diplomacy is a waste of time"), butmany are tied to proposals for personal and corporate advancementthat are truly intriguing, even if they have little chance ofwidespread adoption. Case in point: his proposition for "fluidshares," a compensatory plan in which everyone is paid equally andrewarded or penalized equally according to profits. Personnel atthe top obviously won't like this, but Nader brushes aside thisobjection, claiming it's for the general good. "Those who areinfuriated (should) resign gracefully because their selfishattitude is the one that has been conflicting with theorganization for a long time," he writes. Few will find suchnotions truly feasible, but open-minded readers may appreciatewhere he's going and perhaps even develop some ideas for shakingthings up on their own
